In 2015, 23% of all ages, and 36% of Millennials are “The Nones,” people who claim no faith. According to Pew Research Center, when asked why, they believe that organized religion is too concerned with money and power, rule-making, and politics. It turns out that when people of faith ignore the good works of faith, faith without works really is dead.
The New Testament letter of James says, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1v27).
If you are disenchanted with organized religion and have given up hope on church, you’re not alone. Surprisingly, James would probably agree with your reasons. In a world in which there are so many questions about faith, perhaps it’s possible to find a faith that works.
